Upward Bound provides intensive college preparatory support to high school students from low-income backgrounds with the potential to be the first generation in college from their families. Upward Bound promotes strong academic and personal development skills beginning in ninth grade and involves weekly sessions with an academic advisor responsible for monitoring the participants’ progress. Additionally, a nine-week summer enrichment program, hosted by a local University, helps prepare participants for the college experience.
Eligibility
Currently Upward Bound is provided to students at East High School in Kansas City, MO. To be eligible for this program you must be meet one or more of the following:

Low income (family qualifies for free or reduced lunch).

First generation college bound in immediate family.

High Academic Risk and demonstrates academic need.
